MOTD: Pure Magic Palette by Kokie Cosmetics

Pure Magic by Kokie Cosmetics

While not-so-patiently waiting for all of my new goodies to arrive, I decided to poke around in my stash and pull out a palette that I haven't used in a couple of weeks. I decided to pull out a drugstore favorite - my Pure Magic palette from Kokie Cosmetics

Of the two palettes in the Essential collection are Pure Magic and it's sibling, Arabian Nights. The Arabian Nights palette is much warmer toned with some beautiful jewel tone pops of color. The Pure Magic palette runs a bit cooler and slightly more pastel, and makes it great for colorful but wearable daytime looks.

I decided to go with a soft pinky purple look, as we have entered February and are getting into those Valentine's vibes - pinks and purples are feeling very on trend at the moment. I wanted a nice blended look with a touch of depth and a some peek-a-boo pink.

I think overall this look landed where I wanted it to. The formula in these palettes is pretty decent - a little on the powdery side and there is kick-up in the pan, but even though I did my face first, I didn't end up cleaning up a ton of fallout. I did apply the shimmers with my finger instead of a brush, but did not use any glitter primer or additional sticky base (I actually forgot to prime my lids entirely - usually I use the Clean Canvas by Gerard Cosmetics). These photos don't really capture the shimmer very much, but in person they look rather nice. Overall the color payoff on these isn't super intense, but the colors used in this look were mostly lighter, softer shades.

I created this look by first quickly buffing Ritual above and through my crease. I then layered in Hypnotic through the crease. I starting building some contrast in my outer corner using Mesmerize and pulled that through the crease to define some shape. I used a pencil brush to darken the outer V with Spellbound and pulled that along the outer edge of my lower lash line to define and shape a bit. I then worked a bit more of Mesmerize into the outer corner and crease, and blended it through with Hypnotic again. I pulled Hypnotic down onto the lid to give my shimmers a bit of a base, and then tapped Divine onto the outer half and blended that over into Enchant. I put a touch of Unreal into my inner corner and pulled Poof! along my lower lash line to brighten and blend.

Wrap-up

For a drugstore brand, the products from Kokie Cosmetics are of consistently good quality. The Essential Eyeshadow Palettes retail for $14 a piece and for 16 shades that perform well, this is a great price. If you are looking to add some color to your collection but don't want to spend way too much or end up with products that are tricky to work with, this might just be the right one for you!
